Been busy working in the studio. Planning some stuff for spring 2008.
First up I'm writing my first full length string quartet. Although I written parts for combinations of string duo, trio and quartet for Gemini Wolf tunes, this will be my first string quartet performance. Not having gone to music school or having formal training in this area, it's been fun and challenging. Megan has been helping me showing me the notations for various bowing techniques. Plus I got a copy of Gyorgy Legeti's First String Quartet Métamorphoses nocturnes. This quartet is about a 20 part piece with short bursts of avant guard string sounds that approximate various electronic music sounds. So using this score, I've been able to see how to notate different sounds I was to hear.
The premiere of my piece "Daemon En Gauze" will be at the Paraphrase/Nexus series at Nexus Gallery on April 23. The players are an great cross section of classical, noise and jazz players. It should be nice since parts of the score are improvised.
In Gemini Wolf news, we're working on the new album recording some tracks tonight. We've got a couple of shows every couple of weeks.
Mar 13 - Zebulon, Brooklyn
Apr 3- Barbary, Philly (after Beach House around 10PM)
Lastly we're getting back to doing a Rashomon Effect performance with Perpetual Mvmt<>Snd. Believe it or not our last Perpetual Mvmt<>Snd performance was last year's Fringe Festival. We should be getting the flyers next week for that, which will be
Sat Mar 22 - Mascher Space Coop, Phily.
That's all for now, I forget if I posted all these, but Megan's been ferreting for vxvii reviews and found these. Enjoy and go download the album if you haven't already.
